Case Study
Longroad Energy: an Ignition platform for monitoring a renewable portfolio
Longroad Energy has developed and acquired more than 7 GW of renewable generation and operates a portfolio of wind, solar and storage assets across the US. They built an Ignition-based platform that their Remote Operations Center uses to monitor and analyse every site, with views and data shaped to the technology being run. Mustry contributed alongside their team.

Scope

The challenge
Monitoring a utility-scale renewable portfolio is not the same job from one site to the next. Wind, solar and storage each have their own ways of producing, failing, and being measured, and an analyst looking at a wind site needs to see different things than someone looking at solar or storage. At Longroad's scale, the platform that supports day-to-day monitoring has to respect those differences instead of flattening them into one generic view.
Longroad set out to build that platform in Ignition: one system their Remote Operations Center and engineering team use to keep track of the entire fleet, with the views, history and data model shaped per technology.
The portfolio being monitored
What Longroad built
The result is an Ignition-based platform that gives operations and engineering a single place to monitor and analyse every site in the fleet. Each technology is represented in the way that makes sense for it. Wind, solar and storage all have their own conventions for what to look at and how the data is organised, so screens line up with how the team actually watches performance from the Remote Operations Center.
Underneath those views, the historian and tag structure are set up so the numbers behind the screens can be relied on for the kind of asset-level analysis Longroad's owner-operator approach calls for.
Mustry was part of the team that helped Longroad get the platform to where it is today, contributing on parts of the build alongside their own engineers.
Outcome
Longroad's Remote Operations Center now runs day-to-day monitoring of the wind, solar and storage portfolio on a platform that was built for exactly that purpose. Operators and analysts land on views that match the technology they are looking at, and the underlying data is organised to support the deeper analysis that comes with managing assets as an owner-operator.
The platform gives Longroad a foundation to keep building on as the fleet grows and as the questions the team wants to ask of the data continue to evolve.
